Strength that has effort in it is not what you need;
you need the strength that is the result of ease.

what is Rolfing Structural Integration?
Rolfing Structural Integration is a system of hands on manipulation and movement education that seeks to align the body in gravity. Rolfing SI’s holistic approach results in less pain and more ease.
The best way to understand what Rolfing is is to experience it. If you are new to Rolfing SI, I will recommend that you complete at minimum a ten session series so that you can understand the full benefits of Structural Integration. In a ten series your structure will be worked head to toe to create lasting, positive change. Read more here. Of course you are always welcome to come in for one session, or a shorter series of sessions. Each session includes table, bench, and movement work.
I am a Certified Rolfer®, which means I graduated from the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute, the oldest school for Structural Integration. Graduates of the Rolf Institute use a wide spectrum of touch and movement techniques. My work is informed by the most recent research on pain and the nervous system.
Dr. Ida P. Rolf
Rolfing SI was developed by Ida Rolf. She completed her Ph.D. in biochemistry in 1920 and then went on to explore what fascia-focused hands-on touch could do to expand human potential. She was informed and influenced by numerous healing methods, including homeopathy, yoga, chiropractic, and osteopathy. Structural Integration has continued to evolve since Ida Rolf first pioneered this work, with Rolfers and other Structural Integrators bringing the latest scientific knowledge and wisdom gained from practice to the development of Structural Integration.

spectrum of touch
Rolfers use a wide spectrum of touch to initiate change in your body. Sometimes gentle contact or cueing simple movements is the best at achieving change in your structure. Sometimes more direct pressure is the most therapeutic route. While Rolfing has a reputation for being painful, modern Rolfers have awareness of the importance of working with the nervous system in allowing our work to be effective. Sometimes there is still discomfort or pain, however if you don’t perceive it as therapeutic I will alter my approach.
