about evelyn

Practitioners of SI do not feel ourselves to be therapists. The gravitational field is the therapist. What we do is prepare the body to receive the support from the gravitational field which gives a greater sense of well being.

Rolfing Structural Integration Practitioner Evelyn Genadek
wilderness trail work back pain relief

After graduating from Reed College with a degree in Studio Art in 2011, I headed out to the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness in Idaho for my first “backpacking trip”—five months in the backcountry on a wilderness trail crew, miles away from any road. I fell in love with the work and stayed for seven seasons. I loved the physical labor of maintaining trails, but the chronic strain, imbalance, and repetitive stress began to pile up. I also loved my off-season explorations—Hatha yoga, Foundation Training, Vipassana meditation—but I knew I craved a deeper, more lasting, sense of ease than those practices were offering me.

It wasn’t until I completed my own Rolfing Ten-Series® that I experienced the dramatic, lasting change I’d been seeking:

  • Improved Breathing: after my first session my chest immediately felt lighter and my respiration was effortless and deep.
  • Enhanced Awareness: Rolfing gifted me the capacity to sense my body in a new way, allowing me to gain far more from my movement and meditation practices.
  • So much strength!!! I felt how strong an integrated structure is. I didn’t necessarily need to work out more to be strong, I needed my body to work as a whole.

Not long after my first Ten-Series, I decided to transition into being a fire lookout. In this new phase I found my body was able to support me well not just in hauling water and clearing trees, but also in spending days on end alone. The physical centering was also a mental and emotional centering that helped me be happy in such a special job. I began my studies at the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute® in 2020 and began my practice in Missoula one year later, excited to share Rolfing with more people.

The summer of 2025 was my 15th and (maybe) final season with the U.S. Forest Service. I’m excited to commit full time to my Rolfing practice in 2026. My intention is to use this full spectrum of embodiment practices—demanding physical labor to contemplative practices—to meet my clients where they are, whether they are seeking fundamental pain relief or deeper emotional and energetic balance.
